Era 1 - Evolution

Era 1 is all about exploring an abbreviated version of Earth’s evolutionary tree by breeding pairs of Organisms with the goal of eventually reaching Humans.

Obelisks

Players start to play the game by gaining access to an Obelisk - a mysterious artifact with the power to create early life. This is done through minting an Obelisk NFT.

Each Obelisk can spawn a pair of Bacteria. Spawning a Bacteria results in:

  • a cooldown timer on the Obelisk,

  • as well as a reduction in the remaining spawns.

The pair of Bacteria can then be bred to create the next Organism in the evolutionary tree, and so on, up the chain.

Breeding

With the exception of Bacteria, gaining the next Organism after breeding is not guaranteed. All breed attempts:

  • carry a chance of success (varies between species)

  • can potentially have one of multiple targets (e.g., Sea Sponge leading to one of Coral, Jelly Fish, or Anemone)

  • have a very small chance to yield two of the next organism if successful instead of just one

  • produce the same species as the bred Organisms if not successful (e.g., two Sea Sponges breeding back into another Sea Sponge)

  • have a cooldown timer before the next breed attempt is possible, which increases based on the Organism’s tier in the evolutionary tree

  • reduce the remaining breed attempts on the pair of Organisms

The evolutionary tree branches at several points, resulting in end nodes that aren’t breedable further. However, these Organisms will still be useful in Era 2 in multiple ways.

The evolutionary tree also has a handful of Legendary Organisms. We aren’t revealing what they are or how to breed them just yet. Players will need to try different breeding combinations to figure this out.

We aim to tweak the breeding configuration to yield ~20% of the tree from every pair of Bacteria (a single spawn from the Obelisk). It should take multiple spawns from the Obelisk to cover the the full evolutionary tree, and even then there would be a small but significant chance that a single Obelisk would not yield the full evolutionary tree.

However, every Obelisk should be guaranteed to eventually yield a Human.

Reaching a Human from the very first pair of Bacteria would be possible, but extremely unlikely.

The first 100 holders of Humans will gain perks in Era 2.

Era 1 will initially be a browser-based game that will eventually become a native desktop and mobile game together with Era 2.
